About Dovetree
Shona Fernyhough BVM&S MRCVS MSc graduated as a veterinary surgeon from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh in 2001. She worked in general mixed practice for 6 years during which time she developed a particular interest in pain management and wound healing in large and small animals. This led her to undertake postgraduate training in veterinary acupuncture with the ABVA (Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists) in 2006. In 2007 Shona left general practice to specialise in pain and wound management using acupuncture and ancillary modalities, on a referral basis.
Seeing cases on a referral basis allows Shona to spend time with her patients as well as working closely with their primary vets, both of which she enjoys greatly. Shona also regularly works alongside chartered ACPAT(A) physiotherapists. She finds that the combination of primary veterinary care, acupuncture, physiotherapy and nutritional, exercise and lifestyle changes can provide an excellent approach to pain management for her patients. |
Continued professional development is an important part of Shona’s professional working life. She is a member of the ABVA, the BSAVA (British Small Animal Veterinary Association) and the BVRSMA (British Veterinary Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Association).
In her spare time Shona can most often be found pursuing her love for adventure and wild spaces on Dartmoor and further afield; a passion that she also gladly shares with young people through the Ten Tors challenge and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. |
